Analyze the problem of cardboard recycling
Recycle Circle of Cardboards

· Researches ·

With the development of express delivery and e-commerce. Big platforms like Amazon, Taobao, Alibaba and JD use cardboards as packaging to protect goods during transportation.

China is the top consumer of paper and cardboard products in the world. 675 million packages were delivered on the single day of the Alibaba Shopping Festival in 2019.

At present, the recycling rate of cardboard in the United States is more than 90%. However, due to imperfect recycling standards and high impurity content, the local recycling rate of paper packaging in China is less than 50%. Nearly half of the cardboard produced in China relies on the import of waste paper.

Through my project, I hope to improve people’s awareness of environmental protection and prevent more cardboards that could be recycled from being wasted in the landfill.

Sketches

I made a collage and the pitch video using the amazon cardboards and paper shopping bags that I collected from my flat mates.

We are always told that we should save and protect the earth but it’s a lie. The earth doesn’t need saving, we do! The earth can exist without human but at least till now we can’t live without the earth. The truth is that we are protecting humankind from extinction by protecting our environments.

· Pitch Video ·

Burning paper in the film is an analogy of the trees cut down when manufacturing cardboards. In the video, while the fire is consuming the paper, it is also burning a hole in the human himself. In the last part of the film, the blooming of paper flower indicates the trees that can be saved through recycling and new hopes.
